Terms of Service
Effective date: 2 May 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of MangaZine ("we", "us"). By installing the browser extension or using any of our APIs, you accept these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
The service
MangaZine is a browser extension and supporting backend that translate manga, manhwa, and manhua pages for personal reading. The pipeline performs optical character recognition on images you choose, machine-translates the extracted text, and renders the translation as an overlay or in-painted replacement. Some features run on your device, some on our servers.
We update the service continuously. Features, prices, quotas, and availability of specific translation models may change without prior notice; we'll keep these terms and the pricing page current.
Accounts and licenses
A free trial works without signing up. To use a paid plan, you'll create an account through our payments provider (Polar) and receive a license key by email. You're responsible for safeguarding your key — anyone in possession of it can use the service as you and consume your quota. If you suspect your key has been compromised, email support@mangazine.app for a rotation.
One license is for one person's personal use. Sharing a key across multiple unrelated users is a breach of these terms; we may rate-limit, suspend, or revoke shared keys.
Subscriptions, billing, and refunds
Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) until you cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period; you keep paid features until then. Manage your subscription through the billing portal linked from your account page.
As a rule we don't offer refunds on paid periods — cancel anytime and you keep access through the end of the period you've already paid for. That said, if something's gone wrong (the product didn't work for you, you were charged unexpectedly, hardship), email support@mangazine.app from your billing email and we'll work it out case by case. We can't override the consumer-protection rights granted by your local law, so if those entitle you to a refund we won't make you fight us for it.
If we change pricing, the new price applies on your next renewal. We'll notify you at least 14 days before a price change takes effect.
Quotas and fair use
Each plan has a weekly image quota. Quotas reset every Monday at 00:00 UTC. The Pro plan additionally caps premium-model translations per week; over-cap requests soft-fall-back to the standard model rather than failing.
Even on unlimited plans, abnormal patterns of use that suggest scripted abuse or commercial redistribution may trigger rate limiting or suspension. We will reach out before suspending if there's a plausible legitimate explanation.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service to build a competing translation product, dataset, or model.
- Translate content you don't have a personal right to read (e.g. material behind a paywall you haven't paid for, or pirated scans).
- Reverse engineer the extension or APIs except to the extent allowed by mandatory local law.
- Submit content that is illegal in your jurisdiction or ours, including content depicting minors in a sexual context.
- Try to bypass quota enforcement, rate limiting, or license validation.
- Use the service to harass, dox, or otherwise harm anyone.
Your content; copyright
Manga, manhwa, and manhua you read are owned by their respective publishers and creators. Translating an image for your own personal reading is generally fine; sharing, reposting, or redistributing the translated output may not be. We don't own the source material, and we don't acquire any rights to it by processing it for you. You're responsible for using translations within the bounds of applicable copyright law.
We have a takedown process for rights-holders: if you believe MangaZine's caching of translation results infringes your rights, email support@mangazine.app with a description of the work and the relevant URLs / image hashes. We will purge the affected cache entries within 7 business days of a complete notice.
Service availability
We aim for high uptime but make no guarantees on the free tier. Paid tiers are best-effort with a target of 99.5% monthly availability of core endpoints (OCR, translation, inpainting). Cache prewarming, marketing pages, and admin tooling are excluded from this target. If we suffer an extended outage that materially affects you, contact us and we'll credit your account.
We may suspend the service for emergency maintenance without notice, and for scheduled maintenance with reasonable advance notice on the marketing site.
Termination
You can stop using MangaZine at any time by uninstalling the extension and cancelling any active subscription. We can suspend or terminate your access for breach of these terms or if continued service would be unsafe, illegal, or commercially unreasonable. We'll explain the reason where lawful and refund any prepaid period you can no longer use, pro-rated to the day of termination.
Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties — express, implied, or statutory — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
Machine translation is imperfect. Don't rely on it for legally, medically, or financially consequential decisions. We make no representations that translations are accurate, complete, or culturally appropriate.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you've paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100). We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data, even if we've been advised of the possibility.
Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations. In those places, our liability is limited to the smallest extent permitted.
Disputes
Before anything formal, please email support@mangazine.app describing the issue. Most disputes resolve this way in a few days.
Nothing in these terms limits any non-waivable rights you have under your local consumer protection laws.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service or applicable law changes. We'll update the effective date at the top and post a notice on the marketing site at least 14 days before material changes take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you don't agree, stop using the service before the change takes effect and we'll pro-rate any refund due.
